In January 2027, I plan to return to Sistema Calera in Mexico with Mike Sandone and Luis Espinasa for another phase of fieldwork. The questions raised by our earlier visits are still growing, and so is the list of places we hope to examine.
Many of the cave's flooded sumps remain unexplored by our team. We hope to use Robo-Teddy, our underwater drone, to look beyond the water's surface and follow some of those passages. I'm excited to see what we may find there.
If field conditions and connectivity allow, I hope to share short daily video dispatches from the field, as we did before, while the expedition unfolds. They may capture the preparation, surprises, setbacks, and discoveries along the way. You can find our first dispatch series on my YouTube channel.
