Clarksville Cave ROV Practice

R Recently, my associates Mike, Luis, and I embarked on a journey to Clarksville Cave in New York. This expedition was a preparatory step for an upcoming venture into a similarly terrained cave in Mexico. Our goal was to test an ROV using the robotic claw for grasping and hoisting objects from underwater. Since this was our initial experience with the claw attachment, it was crucial to learn how to manage the ROV with it and to understand its constraints.

Despite the murky waters caused by recent downpours, our trial was a success. We managed to locate and retrieve a peccary skull, which Luis had provided as a test object. While the outcomes were promising, we discovered the ROV’s lifting capabilities to be somewhat limited. This insight will be valuable as we plan for our Mexico cave exploration, where we’ll explore alternative strategies to recover any substantial fossils we might encounter.
